I have a love/hate relationship with the phrase "in process." Sure, I feel like I am a human being in process. Who isn't? I can embrace my reality with both arms. But, when I set out to learn a new process, this week it's been screen printing, I find myself frustrated and childish. I hate starting over... throwing out work done wrong...
Does anyone enjoy this part?
My latest endeavor has involved a whole lot of prep work... and errands. After three trips to Home Depot, I finally purchased the light I need. After two trips to Office Depot, I have the transparencies I need. After two tries spreading the Diazo photo emulsion, in thin layers on the screens, in a darkened room, I think I might have it down...
But, it's a process, right?
My ability to teach myself new things is something I've always enjoyed. This week, I've felt rushed. And, I thought I had done my homework on the subject. The truth is, screen printing is not block printing.
I can't wait to show you the results! I know it'll be worth the work.
Now it's your turn. This is journal prompt #22, for those of you keeping count. The question is this: What process are you in the middle of? What are you learning right now? How's that working for you?
This is Not the End,
